"The Cloud"
You've probably heard it said that the world has gotten smaller. This is true because, since the development of the Internet (the 'Cloud') and such things as Tweeting, texting, instant messaging, social networking (Facebook, MySpace), we've grown much closer. The distance between us, geographically, doesn't matter near as much anymore.
In many ways, this is a good thing. But, in some ways - not so much. While the world has grown closer together, we're also closer to those people who would try to hurt us or take advantage of us. Most people are good - but it's easier than ever for those that aren't to target people who aren't prepared, or aware of the dangers.
So, you've just met a student who has NEVER been on the internet. Their family just moved to the area, and just signed up for internet access at home for the first time. Knowing what you know right now, what would you warn that person about? What would you tell them to be careful of, when they're on the Web? How would you tell them to behave - what precautions should they take?
You don't have to look this up - base it on what you already know - what you've already learned. You CAN research a little on the internet, if you need to...
I would tell them that they shouldn't trust people or believe everything that you see. Avoid shady looking websites and don't go on the deep web, don't ever download something that's "free" when it seems like it should cost money, because there is always a catch. Also don't do anything you see until you have confirmation it's safe because someone can easily be lying and be trying to harm you and others.
ReplyDeleteYeah I would probably tell them the same thing. Because it is never safe.
DeleteThat is great advice. People new to the internet should only go onto the definite safe sites.
DeleteI disagree because for example what if your mom tries to friend you, but you don't trust its your mom and you call the police when she tells you something Like "I'm outside the house, let me in." Then you just went through all that for nothing.
Deletei would tell the people the same exact advice.
DeleteI agree, and this is great advice. I would tell people the same thing about shady websites.
DeleteBased on what I know, the first thing I would tell them is to not put in information about themselves on Websites they don't know are safe. Second, never use your credit card information, unless it's on popular websites, that are trusted amongst other people you know. Also, if you are on a website, and you are downloading something that says it's free and it asks for your credit card information, DO NOT put in your credit card information. Also, don't click on links on the sides of unsafe websites, often times they'll give you viruses on your computer. Never give out your location.
ReplyDeleteI agree with what you said
DeleteI agree, I feel that people aren't used to the internet and their lies will fall for their tricks easily, especially the credit card one.
DeleteOn what I know when your on something and it says its free and you have a to put your credit card in don't do it cuz they can steal your money.
ReplyDeleteI agree, it's never safe to put your credit card information in on an untrusted website, or when it says free and wants you to put in your credit card.
DeleteBased on what I know I would tell them not to tell people where they live or give them any important information about your self.
ReplyDeleteI agree it's never safe to put your credit card on an untrusted website or when it says free and wants you to put in your credit card.
DeleteI agree with you completely. i would do the same exact thing. except i would say lot more to the people who are just using the internet.
DeleteI agree, if you give personal information people will try to find out about you and prey on you.
DeleteI would tell them not to trust what other people say, people lie on the internet. If someone tells you to give out personal information never do so. Dont tell people your Location, age, state, etc. Be careful on what you do say!
ReplyDeleteTrue, there are many people on the internet trying to make a quick buck on confused people on the internet.
DeleteI would tell them to never put there credit info on any website that asks for you, Most people lie on the internet never believe what they say to you, and never ever say where you live, your age, the state you live in, and your credit info etc.
ReplyDeleteTrue but what if its like amazon and you buy something on there like bryce does all the time for his 4 wheeler and he still has his money but in all case amen preach that.
DeleteI agree because there are so many fake things on the internet.
DeleteI would tell them not to trust anything or dont sign up for anything and dont ever download random stuff! Dont trust anyone because you can make fake profiles and dont ever give any personal imformation to anyone.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the fake profiles, because people do that, It is a scary world and you don't know what people are capable of.
DeleteI agree because you can't always trust what people say on there. And people can hack your accounts if your not careful. So you have to be careful what information you put out there.
DeleteIf I met someone who has never used the internet I would first tell them to never put there information on there, such as where they live, or there passwords. Also to watch out for who they talk too. There are so many people out there that make fake profiles and they try to be your friend and ask for information. Lastly I would tell them to never put there credit cards on any websites that aren't very popular, most of them are a hoax and they will take your money.
ReplyDeleteI would definitely tell them to watch out for fake profiles.
DeleteIt would be very important to not put your credit card information on websites, especially websites that you have never heard of. You may expect to get a service or product in return and you may never see that, or you could be shipped something that is broken, or not what you wanted.
DeleteI would warn them of the viruses and dangerous programs. Never download something if you don't know what it is. But never put any of your personal information out there for people to see.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you because if people put out their personal information thats how people can get hacked.
DeleteI would tell them not to put their personal information on the internet. I would then say make sure you read everything on the internet before you agree to it. Don't put your credit card numbers on websites unless you know for sure it's not a scam. People can say and do things on the internet an they might not be true. Just be safe while your using the internet.
ReplyDeleteI agree because if you put your personal information on the internet you can get hacked and it can ruin your lifes.
DeleteI agree because i have gotten scammed on the internet twice and they seemed real but they where just scams.
DeleteAs a internet user, I would tell the new student to only add friends that you have met in person to your social medias, never give out you address to a stranger, even if they say they know you but you haven't met them. I would warn them to never cyber bully or any corrupt speaking as in swearing or anything. I think it is a really dangerous world out there especially if you are new to the internet because there is a lot of apps for your phone that millions of people use everyday and you never know when something can go wrong.
ReplyDeleteI think that adding only people that you know in real life is a smart plan, being aware of who you are talking to is very important.
DeleteYes, and I'm sure I could have added a lot more about Internet safety on my post, but I think everyone's posts were all correct.
DeleteIf i really didn't car i would probably tell them to do what they want but since I'm not like that i would tell them to be careful what they do online never give your private info to anyone including your name your birthday ect.
ReplyDeleteWell its good to be aware of what you say on the internet.
Deleteyea you wouldn't want to look up " how to be a great terrierist" because the Nsa might read that wrong and you would get in serious trouble if people found out.
DeleteIf someone has never used the internet before and didn't know it's dangers, I would them to never tell anyone their personal information. The internet is very useful, but also very scary and dangerous. People aren't always who they say they are. If someone asks you to meet them somewhere, never go. Make sure you're always on safe sites and if anything seems suspicious, get off right away.
ReplyDeleteI agree, that the internet can be useful but very scary because there are a lot fake people out there.
DeleteMy theory about everything is to not trust anyone. This is especially true on the internet, because people cannot convey, or see someone's emotions over text. It is hard to decide whether people are trustworthy or not on the internet. For that reason, do your research before picking a website or source to use. Websites that end in: .edu, .gov, or even ,org are a lot more trustable than .com websites. This is becuase not anyone can just post on those websites, as opposed to a .com. On a .com anyone can do anything, and it is likely not monitored by a second opinion.
ReplyDeleteI agree with this, the Internet can hide a lot of bad people and you really don't know who is telling the truth or trying to catfish you.
DeleteI agree with you, .edu, .gov, and .org are better choices than .com.
DeleteI agree, you can never trust anyone, they could pretend to be someone else.
Delete".mil" is also a very reliable domain. It has information related to the United States military.
DeleteI think that a person that is unware of internet, should be warned about the many dangerous that could happen to them. A person should never give out any personal information because someone could take that info and take your identity. The internet can be a scary place but if you use right, it can provide a lot of fun and entertainment.
ReplyDeleteI agree, identity thieves are all over the internet top to bottom.
DeleteI would tell someone who has never went on the internet to never trust anything completely. There is more to the internet than you will ever think, so it is important to be aware of what your searching, or what website your going too. Also, watch out for clickbait: such as "(Topic) you will never believe what happens next", or "Check out this game it is the best game of the century", stuff like that can give you viruses and or malware.
ReplyDeleteIf I were to come across a person that had not been on the internet before, I would tell them to stay away from sites that require a credit card or anything that involves a purchase, as they could easily get tricked into a scam. Next I would tell them to explore a bit to see the real potential of the internet. Lastly, I would tell them to never click on any adds or random links.

DeleteI agree, you never know whats on the internet. People can be stalking you, trying to get personal information, etc.
DeleteWell my Idea for internet safety is not to trust anyone on the internet besides the people you actually already know in real life. Also the NSA tracks all our movements so don't look up anything up that you know could be bad. You also shouldn't click on every add you see other wise you computer may get viruses
ReplyDeleteAD is spelt with one D not two, but i do agree with your statement about not looking up bad stuff, but i don't think the NSA is watching.
DeleteOops Sorry, But I think the NSA is watching because as Edward Snowden Showed us they are tracking our calls, and I mean what else could they do with that kind of power
Deletei agree with what you said

ReplyDeleteDon't trust everyone you meet on the internet and be cautious about certain websites and people. Don't put personal information online or use your credit cards on sites you aren't familiar with. Also don't click on anything that seems like a scam or a random link. Certain things can also give you viruses.
ReplyDeleteI 100% agree with this, you are very right. There are a lot of people hiding behind screens out there, and giving personal information out is not a good idea
DeleteAnd they are able to use your personal information if they are able to get it, that's why it's never a good idea to put it out there.
DeleteYeah pretty bad stuff can happen when you aren't safe when using technology
DeleteI would tell them to be smart. Use your brain, thats why we have them. Don't put any of your personal information online that you don't know. Don't download anything with a .exe at the end, it has a high chance to be a virus. Basically what I'm saying is be smart don't be dumb.
ReplyDeleteExactly. Don't do things that seem a little off, especially when you never know what's out there.
DeleteI agree. you should never put any personal information on the internet. be smart and think of what your doing before you put anything online.
DeleteI agree with your statement, children should use their brains when it comes to the internet and using it.
DeleteI think that the internet isn't alway safe but it is helpful for things like school, work ect. Yes people should check out sites before they put any personal information on them. If your on shopping site make sure its legit before putting a credit card number, I would just say be carful when using technology.
ReplyDeleteAgreed, but you should be careful what sites you visit, they could be completely false or fake.
DeleteI would tell them to be alert at all times and to make sure their not downloading something that would give them a virus. Some websites are dangerous too and they should be careful on what they look up. Don't download something that your not sure of what it is either. Ask a parent or guardian if it's safe or ok to get the subject or object you want online.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you on this. being alert at all times about stuff like this is a good thing.
DeleteI agree to to your statement, be alert and be smart things can get to dangerous out there in the deep web.
DeleteI think that you should always be alert about what you are looking at or reading on the internet you can never believe anything on social media or when searching the web. Don't even download random things or download things that people tell you to or things you read online. Read everything and ask your parents and have them read it before you download or make an account of something. Also make sure you never use your whole name online, address, email or birthday. Always be safe and aware of what you are doing or looking at online.
ReplyDeletei totally agree on this. downloading something on your device or making an account is pretty dangerous and as you said they have to be very alert of what they're doing.
DeleteYes, never and I mean never use your whole name for anything especially your address unless you know the site it reliable ! I agree with thou statement!
DeleteI agree with your post about your thoughts on internet safety. You should always be alert at what you put on there and what you are looking at.
DeleteI totally agree with you on this one your points are very good
DeleteI would tell them that the internet is a dangerous place. There are people on the internet that would harm you and catfish you. Don't post personal information like phone numbers or addresses. Also, a lot of what you read isn't true. People sell fake stories to the tabloids to make an extra buck. Be cautious and be safe.
ReplyDeleteIf I had to talk to kids about internet safety then I would tell them that anything can happen on there. Never put your personal information on websites because you never know when they can get hacked. Someone can get all your stuff and could possibly ruin your life. Also don't believe the internet, most of the things being said on there isn't true.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteI agree with you on this, never put your personal information online and don't believe anything someone says online because it isn't true.
DeleteYes i thats pretty accurate and true kids need to be more alert
DeleteIf i had to say one thing the internet is a dangerous place so you should be safe and know what your doing before you start using it
